MY STORY

Let me start by introducing myself… Hi, I’m Susannah.

Firstly, I would like to thank you for considering me as your dog trainer. It is my passion to work with canine companions and help teach their humans how to understand their dog better. I truly believe that dogs are communicating with us all the time, we simply must learn to listen.

Early 2022, I completed my Certificate III in Companion Animal Services at the Pet Stylist Academy (RTO 2875) which has given me the knowledge and skills needed to provide information on animals, products, and services.

Soon after completing this course, I was selected to complete the Certificate III in Wildlife and Exhibited Animal Care at TAFE QLD. I successfully completed this course and graduate at the end of June 2023. This course focus was on animal husbandry and enrichment with work experience and classes held at Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary. What an eye-opening experience it was! Working with a range of animals – everything from Capybaras to Snakes to Dingos – has given me the confidence to apply behavioural theory in different contexts. I have loved working based on positive reinforcement when interacting with animals.

Prior to enrolling in this formal study, I had the great opportunity to work for three years as a dog trainer, learning and working under an accredited trainer with 21 years of experience. The method used focused on teaching awareness and understanding of dog body language, understanding natural canine behaviour and emotions and how to redirect unwanted natural behaviours through positive reinforcement. After training intensively and co-teaching classes, I began to instruct my own full eight-week classes as well as private one on one sessions with clients. In my work at the puppy school, I was able to teach people how to effectively communicate with their pets to establish a strong relationship built on trust.

That brings us to now! As a trainer, I strive to to empower owners by setting them up for success with the right knowledge required to understand their dog, ultimately creating a better life for both human and animal. Thank you again for considering me as your trainer. I look forward to hearing from you!
